Just download the above version to my iphone and now can't fine my network T-Mobile and can't make call with my phone. My iphone is open to all network and currently my sim card is for T-Mobile and I just returned to US. I need some help

Started Seeing 'No Service' Since 3.1 ...

Hi,

I hope someone can offer some advice here - I'm new to both iPhone and Apple in general.

I've had the phone (3GS 32GB) for about a month and have always had 3G enabled. I'm on O2 in the UK and two things have become clear: O2s 3G coverage is not the best and the iPhone's 3G reception (when compared to other phones in the same location using the same carrier) is quite poor. Other than missing the speed, this has not greatly troubled me so far - it just goes to Edge or GPRS and life continues.

I installed 3.1 a couple of days ago and since then 3G reception has been worse. Even more of a problem is that I've started seeing lots of 'No Service' messages instead of it dropping back to Edge or GPRS. Disabling 3G puts it back to normal but then I can never take advantage of 3G on the rare occasion that the iPhone gets a good signal. Is anyone else experiencing this and, if so, is there any kind of setting or work-round I can apply?

As a bit of a separate rant, I'm in a love-hate relationship with this thing. I've come from a business class WM PDA and just love the interface and integration of the iPhone. Unfortunately, it verges on the incompetent or archaic is most other areas - including no persistent notification of missed calls/VM, no track skip in bluetooth, poor 3G performance comapred to almost any other phone held alongside and on the same carrier, no automatic clock set for O2 users, no way to save files, no bluetooth beaming, removal of tethering option even on unlocked phones with a tethering-accepting carrier, no way to have emails in one common inbox, no notes/todo sync from exchange etc).

It's a keeper but makes business use very frustrating and wasn't really what I expected at this price point. As soon as I develop the nerve for it, I'll try jailbreaking as it seems to address many of the limitations. I'm really trepidatious about this though and would appreciate anyone's perceptions or experiences before trying it.

Started yesterday, not sure what I did, but every 1/2 hour to 1 hour, I get a random sound, which is the Sonar sound in general settings.

where is the MMS setting for iPhone OS ...

I live in the Netherlands, using T-Mobile service. I just update the software to version 3.1, but I cannot send MMS any more ( T-mobile supports MMS). However, my friends who use the same phone running the same software version and of the same network can!

iPhone headphone jack issues and sound ...

Check this out. The other day my headphone jack stopped working. I thought I had an issue with the headphone so I went and purchased a new pair. They still did not work. Then I tried to use the ipod and the headphones worked fine and I can hear the sound just fine. When I try to make a phone call with the phone the sound in the headphones immediately stops and cannot hear or talk into phone via the headphones. Once I ended the call the headphones immediately worked again with the ipod.

Any ideas?

ok so ive had my iPhone 2/3 months and it works a treat. Now have unlimited text bolt-on (godsend) however my phone decides it can no longer be bothered to beep when one of my contacts texts me - my only guess is this is the most used contact on my phone and its a glitch due to amount of messages being received?. weird huh?

Organization of SMS ...

Does anyone have a problem with the organization of SMS. I send/recieve 3500/5000 text per month. I had to access a past text from about a week ago and it took forever. It would be nice when accessing conversations to have a sub file where you could recall by date. Has anyone had a similar experience or heard of any changes to the platform?

Appointment reminders: can you turn ...

At certain times, I want my iPhone to still be on and connected, but not to bug me in any way. I can turn off the ringer and all sounds with the standard side switch, I can adjust all all push programs to turn off all notifications, and I can stop MMS messages from displaying on the main screen by setting the messages preferences.

However, I don't seem to be able to generally stop meeting requests from lighting up the iPhone and displaying.

I realize I can go in and set every appointment to have no alert, but I enter appointments from different places, and not every client makes it easy to remove alerts.

Has anyone found a setting on the iPhone that simply keeps the iPhone from lighting up for calendar appointments if an alert is set?

iPhone 3GS phone not working after v3.1 ...

I recently upgraded my iPhone 3GS 16GB firmware to v3.1 and since then I can rarely receive/make calls send/receive texts or use 3G in any way.

I am in the UK on O2 and my iPhone show that I have 3G coverage and standard reception (I am based in central London), however the only way I can use my phone is to restart the phone and even then I only get around 5-10mins of being able to retrieve voicemail, texts, or use 3G coverage.

Essentially my iPhone has been reduced to an iPod touch which is very frustrating!

I have reset the network settings, performed a hard reset, removed the SIM and none of these have made a difference. My network (O2) doesn't know what the problem is and I presume that something with the 3.1 upgrade is now conflicting with my hardware.

Has anyone else experienced this as I am currently paying line rental for a device that is no longer behaving like a mobile phone?!

Any help is much appreciated!

When I try and do an upgrade from my EDGE phone to 3GS (it says that I can reserve the iPhone), everything proceeds fine until I try and go to the page where I select my iPhone. It loads for about 10 seconds, and then says "An error occurred. Please try again later."

iPhone firmware 3.0 unknown error ...

After trying to finish 3.0 upgrade of my iPhone 3G for an hour without success in the final activation, after like 100 connection attempts, and no signal of trouble instead the error message in iTunes (that 9807 unknown error message), I started to figure out that the attempt to connect was really fast to fail.
Out of nowhere I just stopped little snitch from blocking unwanted connections, and at the next try, iTunes was able to make the activation!!!!!!!!! Note that, during all the previous attempts little snitch made no mention of something trying to connect out, and obviously all apple software is permitted to connect to internet...
To me this was no coincidence, little snitch blocked something on activation process...
I hope this can help someone, if the LS was really the cause of trouble

Every time I plug my Iphone 3GS into another computer it wont play my music on the Itunes without asking me to sync it, I put it on Manual transfer of course and it will play on my own computer fine which is what I want. But only when I bring it to work it ask me to sync (deleting all my music) via Itunes.

The itunes on both computers are Itunes latest update and both are PC'S

hi folks, new to this forum! have tried getting answers from iphone support but they kind of fobbed me off with a pre typed message.
my problem is that i seem unable to set songs in my itunes library to be ringtones, even the songs that i bought off itunes!
is this just a feature that is unavailbe to itunes users in ireland or am i completely off the mark and just a bit stupid?
this has been buggin me for ages m=now so any advice or help would really be greatly appreciated!

It seems that I never get to it quick enough as it only rings for a short while and I end up ringing that person back, so consequently costing me a call each time. I have gone into settings but just can't find a way to extend the amount of rings.

iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode ...

Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in? Did I just totally ruin my iPhone? What do I do? Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

Ghosts in MMS app ...

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, been with iPhone since October 2008, got no answer in other forums to this particular problem. I use 3G iPhone 8GB SF, OS 3.0.1.
The problem started since I upgraded to 3.0 and enabled MMS. I sent a couple MMS, then deleted them. Then I get an SMS from an unrelated contact. In a preview I see his text, but when I open his message I see the text and sometimes the picture from the previously deleted MMS to a different person. Then another SMS comes in - another deleted MMS picture pops up, and so on.
I checked with my carrier, thought it was their mix-up - they referred me to a good psychiatrist.
My contacts notice nothing wrong, by the way, they get the correct pictures and texts, the mix-up is only at my iPhone.
The MMS APN string definitions have been double checked with the carrier - they are OK
Any ideas?

The only reason why I keep a land line in my home is because I need to be able to answer and hear my phone ringing regardless of where I am in my home and I do not want to wear a bluetooth headset all of the time or carry my iPhone with me all of the time.

Paid 99 bucks for this service JUST for the location service in case of theft. Well now the phone has been stolen and I cannot locate the phone because the thief turned off the push. Great job apple! Everyone who knows anything about iPhone's knows about the location service available. All they have to do is turn off the push notifications and then the phone cannot be located. Sure I can wipe it, but that wont get my phone back. Also I will loose the ability to make that radar which is even dumber. Apple should offer the ability to put the phone into store mode so it cannot be used until it is brought into an apple store. Then "oh look, you have a stolen phone, let me call security." Thanks again for the false hope apple.

Directing phone calls via aux cable ...

Many of us run our ipods off the iphone through our aux cables out to the car speakers - one thing ive noticed tho is when you are rung upby someone this function seems to cease and the conversation is not heard through the car speakers. The speakerphone on the handset is not ideal for hearing things.

Does anyone have a solution without having to plug the iphone in via the headphone socket into the aux of the car?

I have a 3gs 32 G, firmware 3.0. I have been able to make ringtones and sync with the iphone. There seems to be a limit to the # of ringtones it will take, however. After 4 were imported, anytime that I try to import another one, it is duplicated (2 of the same) and a previously imported ringtone is deleted.

Has anyone experienced this problem? is there a limit? Is there something that I'm missing? Help

Can anyone explain to me from a technical standpoint why the original iPhone won't support MMS? The last thing I heard was it was because the processor was not powerful enough. Powerful enough for what?! That sounds bogus to me. If it's a slower processor, then it just takes a little longer to manipulate the picture...

And come on... I can attach a photo to an e-mail and send it! Why can't I send it via MMS? I can capture video and play video already on the phone. Further, the iPhone 1st generator is capable of manipulating audio in real time (see SMULE products, and maybe others) but it can't do a non-real-time upload of a video or image?

I'm calling shenanigans.

3.1 with phone and bluetooth ...

In my car I use the Bluetooth connection to make phone calls. With 3.0 and 3.01 it worked good.
With 3.1 I have problems.
I connect thru bluetooth with my car audio.
Then I make a phone call.
Untill connection is established it works.
At the moment the connection is established the connection with my car audio is gone.
And sometimes my iPhone freezes, so I have to reset the phone.
Are there more persons with the same problem? Is this a bug?

Iphone 3G no sound when receive email ...

My iphone is on the ring setting and rings when I get a new phone call however it only vibrates when I get a new text message or email. It used to make sounds and vibrate and I don't know what happened. When i play with the sound settings the ringtone is old phone and when i change it to a new one i hear it. The new text is set to tri-tone but when i change that it does not make a sound. It appears i have ring set for new voicemail, new mail and calendar alerts all are on but they are only vibrating. I am sure this is an easy fix but I don't know what to do. thanks

iPhone in headphone mode ...

My iphone headphone jack isn't working. Its as if the phone is thinking that opposite. When there are no headphones in I can't hear anything and pressing the volume button shows (headphones)on the screen. However when the headphones are in it acts as if there are none in it and all the sound functions work fine.

I also know that it definitaly thinks that is in headphone mode when nothing is plugged in as while playing music and putting the headphones in but not all the way you can get music to play through the headphones..

I have just recently swapped the back case on my iphone and it came with headphone jack switches etc already in place. All I had to do was attach a cable..

Do you think that there is anyway to get a program to manually change it or a command line that will reverse it?

I live and drive around rural Scotland with broken 3G coverage using O2. As a result I get Loss of Signal messages, not one but many each of which has to be acknowledged/cancelled before I can use my iPhone again. Why is this? Why is it that when someone calls me and I'm currently on a call, the party I'm talking to can hear the call waiting tone? I don't think this was an issue in previous software revisions (1.x), but it certainly is now(2.x ). When in a conference call or other important phone call, this is very obnoxious.

In 10.5.7 Disk Utility appeared to be repairing the same permissions over and over again.
Apple's article TS1148
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
lists these and states they can be ignored.
However, far from fixing this in 10.5.8, it seems to have got worse with the list of 'unrepaired' permissions even longer.
It is impossible, without a long printout and rigorously checking it, to see whether anything has been repaired at all: repeating the process appears to produce the same very long list indicating that nothing was repaired on the previous pass.
Anyone got any ideas how to make Disk Utility work again?
I tried deleting its preference file but got the same results.

My oncall pager is a monstrosity (Skytel)
so I've managed to use the "Manage My Pager
/ Forward My Messages / Retain" feature
at www.skytel.com to duplicate this
clunker-pager's alarms to my Apple iPhone.

The result is a far more reliable result of
received pages on time in locations where
the Skytel pager won't receive for hours
(unless you drive out.)

My question is this: a pager does have the
capacity of a louder alarm and persistent
reminders beeps once the first alarm hits.

I've solved the first issue of a louder alarm
but I want to resolve the second issue to
make for repeat beeps until the message is
acknowledged in the Messages app.

Any possible way to do that anybody?

Subject says it. They used to all the time reliably. iPhone 3G with 3.1 OS.

I get a phone call and it's the iPhone's default ringtone (Old Phone). I think to myself, hmmm, someone I don't know. I look and it is someone I have a custom tone set for. After the call, I look to see if their ringtone is still there and it is and it's working when I click on it. Any ideas?

Push notifications: does an app have to ...

Finding that getting expected push notifications is rather unpredictable.

It seems that if I launch an app that provides Push notifications after rebooting iPhone, that they work.

However, can't yet tell if there is any case that I get them if I do not do that.

Definitive word on this? It seems to me it would be impractical to have to launch all apps you want push notifications from every time you reboot your phone?

Any idea how long its likely to take Apple to release a bug fix for the bluetooth problems?
I had 2 handsfree bluetooth devices working before 3.0, now only 1 works no matter what I do, I have tried re installing and re pairing a number of times.

Unable to sync photos to iPhone ...

I have an iPhone 3G. I updated it to 3.0 yesterday. After the update, I removed my photos from my iPhone. I then tried to sync them back. After syncing would finish the capacity bar would show a really small size for the photos section, like 400 kb, when I was trying to sync a folder with many pictures and a much greater size. After syncing, the photos weren't on the iphone.

I restored the phone to a backup and the problem persisted. I restored the phone to original conditions and the photos syncing worked at first. For some reason now, after I sync my music and apps, I have about 50-70 mb of free space although I get the following message when I try to sync a folder with a few photos: "No photos were copied to the iPhone because there is not enough free space on the phone to hold your photos and albums". I'm trying to sync a folder a 4.5 mb iPod Photo Cache and 7 images ranging in size from 14 kb to 105 kb. What on earth could possibly be causing this? Anyone experiencing the same or a similar problem?

BTW, I'm running windows vista 64-bit, if that makes any difference.

HELP 3.0.1 update messed up my ...

My iphone was working great until I finally updated it today with the 3.0.1 update through itunes 9.0.

Now it won't let me call out at all. I've called the apple help support but nothing they suggested worked as well.

I've turned off my iphone, turned it off and took out the sim card, hard reset, reset network settings, and reset all settings with no improvement.

Has anyone else has this problem or know how to fix it?

3Gs freezes ...

I asked this once b4 without any responses, so I'll try again.
My 3Gs freezes upon ending a call, oh, maybe once a week. Seems like it's always after an ER call on a run, but that may just be my imagination. A reset always seems to fix it for a while.

Also, even though I have email set to only download manually, the iPhone still DLs all my waiting email when I place my first call of the day. In that I haven't gotten around to screening for junk yet, it all lands in my phone. Suggestions? Other than just do my email first?

I had hoped 3.1 would take care of both of these, but . . . . . .

The plug for a headset is a horrible design, for three days I couldn't place or receive a call on my iphone unless I used speakerphone. Frustrated after three hours on the phone with tech support, he told me to just go into a local apple store and get it replaced.

The solution, cleaning out my headphone jack. Yeah, Google was more helpful than apple tech support. Turns out even if the slightest bit of invisible dust gets into the headphone jack the iphone will read it as having a headset plugged in. You might want to take a look at that, suggesting a customer cleans out their headphone jack is probably much cheaper than replacing someones phone. A guys!

International keyboard problem - ...

Hi!
I use my iPhone 3G with 3.01 OS.
My default keyboard language is set to Hungarian, which works great. Except for one little annoying thing. I have to wait seconds to tap on a letter, that is secondary on the virtual keyboard. Is there any way to reduce the delay of the alternative key popup box?

I mean, I'm not sure about you guys but the first thing I do when I get hold of someone elses phone is look through their messages. Maybe this makes me a bad person, but I don't want people looking through my messages. They're private!
And my friends love to play with my apps on the phone but I need to know that my messages are secure! I just think it would be easy to implement, and really beneficial to a lot of people.

Turn of Landscape Keyboard in text? ...

Is there any option to turn of the landscape keyboard in applications such as the messages or mail app? Or is there a way of turning it off in general for all applications?

If not, could this be fixed ASAP? I don't want to have to find a 3rd party way of doing it.

Anyone know of a good program to extract SMS messages from the iphone, or the backup file located in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup on a mac? Something that is able to put it into a .txt file or anything that is legible?

And most importantly, that is firmware 3.0 friendly, works on an iphone 3GS (obviously but just incase) and is free? I saw some online but you have to pay for them and some aren't even iPhone OS 3.0 compatible. Only 2.0

Or does anyone know of a way to do this yourself by navigating the files in the backup folder?

Lastly... anyone know of a way to put old SMS's back on an iPhone if you decide to do a new restore instead of one from a backup? Many thanks!

I'm getting an iPhone 3G soon and was wondering if it was possible to have more than 1 conversations (messages) of the same person. AKA. Is it possible to start a new conversation when messaging someone with an already existing conversation. I know you can delete some or all of the conversation, but I was wondering if you can do this without deleting any part of the first conversation.

Phone stuck 'locked' and iPod crashing ...

Has anyone else been having this problem? My iPod app crashed around 6 or 7 times today.

Also when I 'lock' my phone, with won't 'unlock'. It is completely unresponsive to the home button or the wake buttom being pressed. The only way to get the phone back on is to hold both buttons and do a full reset, which is annoying.

Where can I get in touch with developers and/or beta testers of the MMS update that is coming out? I have some feedback and issues to share with them that needs to be addressed before the MMS rolls out, and would like to share with them so they can have the issue looked at or addressed...any clues who I can contact?

iphone switch into "headphone mode" ...

hope someone can help. a few times in the last few days my iphone, in the middle of a call, will go from regular "phone" mode into thinking I have headphones in.. when i DON'T, and thus it kinda ends the call as I can no longer hear who I'm talking to and they can't hear me. it's happen twice now in the middle of business calls... VERY frustrating.

I've tried putting a jack into the headphone port, and that worked once, but hasn't worked consistently. I've blown into the port thinking there might be dust in there, but that doesn't seem to help. and just as randomly, after the call has ended and I put the iphone down.. it randomly clicks back as if reverting back to regular mode, unassisted.

any thoughts out there?

I'm on pay as you go, brand new iPhone 3GS bought last week, brand new sim card.
Every time someone tries to call me, straight to voicemail, or will receive an error message "It has not been possible to connect your call".
Obviously it's no signal problem, i had full signal as i rang my own phone from the landline, and still and error instantly.

I've been looking around on the inter for the past 2 days now, and i'm actually just plain sick of it, someone needs to tell me how to fix this.
I've tried turning the "push data" off in the email section, and setting fetch on. Still nothing.

I find lately with my iPhone 3G that it calls people by itself. I was just driving down the road in the car with the phone beside me and all of a sudden i heard 'hello, hello' and low and behold there was my mother on the phone.

Q3 : is it possible to send an automatic SMS with the application, without user need to write it ? For example, the user does a particular action that results into a SMS sending toward a server which controls other user equipments.

I am having these problems more and more often. Other peoples Iphones are also calling me at random hours without them knowing. I just got off the phone with an apple tech support person and they told me this was the first time she heard of this and really did'nt understand my issue. I think this is the last time I buy an apple product. I urge all the people who are having this issue to call apple and report this.

Since installing 3.0.1, i have noticed that when sending and receiving a text message, the contact name is not in the display, instead it is the number. I don't remember changing any settings on my iphone.

Retrieving SMS messages ...

Whilst trying to update my iPhone to 3.1 I accidently knocked the lead out of my computer. This caused an error message to appear on iTunes saying update could not be completed. My phone said to connect to iTunes again which I did. But iTunes then said that I had to restore to factory settings in order to use the phone again. I did this and then restored the phone using the backup so I was able to retrieve my contacts, music etc but I have lost all my messages, is there a way to get them back?

Timezones... Again - Still broken! ...

The original post revolves around how can I get the right timezone on my iPhone (or Mac OSX for that matter). Every year from March to October (during Daylight savings Time) my clock is always an hour ahead. Why? because the iPhone OS up to 3.1 does not allow you to select REAL timezones, instead of city names. As my city is not available, I choose the city Ponta Delgada, but that city has a DST policy as they are part of Portugal which also observes DST. I would like to choose my timezone; GMT -1 ALL YEAR ROUND with NO Daylight Savings. Well, the question is still unanswered and it kills me is that THIS FORUM observes my timezone properly but any other software that Apple makes does not! I guess there has been a little improvement, since this site now supports the Cape Verde Islands Time Zone (GMT-1).
I have fixed it in OSX with a UNIX hack, but cannot fix it on the iPhone, being a closed system and all. What irks me to no end is that this is such a simple fix and just inconceivable to me why it hasn't been fixed yet! OS X IS a Unix machine after all, and these features (if you can even call them that, I mean timezones? Come On!) are already there you just need to BRING THEM TO THE GUI.
Allow me to choose my timezone, not my city, PLEASE! I know we are a very small country and don't have a lot of people living here, but we do exist and do have computers and we definitely have Macs and iPhones (some legit some not, but that's a topic for another post) and we do like to have the correct time on our machines. I have tried VERY hard to get this message through to Aplle, but to no avail. I have submitted this issue as a feature request (HA! A feature!?), written an email to steve at apple dot com, posted my comments on a lot of people's questions in regards to this very issue with other timezones, but I just get no love!
If you only knew the havoc that this causes me whenever I get a meeting request on my iPhone... man... it is just annoying as ****.
Apple, for the umpteenth time PLEASE FIX THIS!!

iphone messing up HD channels on cable ...

My iphone is causing my HD channels to go haywire. The picture gets pixelated and sound also goes out when the phone is being used or if I'm receiving emails, text messages, etc.

Called Comcast and they said no one else has complained about it.

3.1 Update and Dropped Calls ...

After updating to iPhone 3.1, my 3GS has been dropping calls like crazy. Sometimes 2 or three times in a five minute call! PLEASE FIX THIS! I have tried resetting network settings. Also, when I installed 3.1 I did so by first installing the update, and then doing complete restore and setup as a new phone, without applying any old backups. Has anyone experienced this? Any fixes? I basically cannot make it through a single phone call without having a drop call.
