Varied Level of System Sounds (Texting, ...

Anyone else having issues with the volume of their phone's system sounds.

Locking, unlocking, receiving/sending texts, and new text alerts all seem to have sporadic rises and drops in their volumes.

I'm not blocking the speaker and have noticed this happening pretty frequently. Often within minutes of one another.

iPhone text messaging problem ...

My iPhone (old Edge 8GB) will not allow me to reply to a text message. I tap the reply key over and over sometimes 50 times (really hard) and sometimes it will move to the reply screen other times it won't. There doesn't seem to be a pattern either way. Is there an update for this bug?

I don't know how many times I accedently cancel a SMS message, by touching the "cancel"-button instead of the "add reciepients"-button. I would like to see a conformation question before canceling the message.

I'm getting new voicemails delayed from hours later to a day later from the missed call. What should I do? I am also getting voicemails that I have deleted reappearing in my voicemail box.

I have someone who keeps texting and phoning me, and i want to know if theres any way for me to block their number.
i really dont want to have to change my number and go through all the hassle of having to give out my new one, because of some **** that cant leave me alone!

Crashed External HD ...

Because my laptop has a small internal HD, I purchased a 500Gb external HD on which to store all of my iTunes songs. The iTunes app is on my C: drive, but the songs themselves were on an external E: drive. The external HD recently crashed, and needed to be sent out for recovery work. I have a 2nd external HD that I used for backup purposes. All of my iTunes songs, about 4,000 of them, are no longer accessible in iTunes "because the original file could not be found", which makes sense because the original HD is gone. Is there a method of having iTunes search my backup HD to find the song location? Can it automatically run this search and re-build the file pointers for all 4,000 songs?

How do you block a number from calling you? If you can't, how can we get this feature added to furture updates. It's annoying to constantly receive phone calls from people you have asked to stop calling and they continue. Would be nice to just block the number

My ring tones are not working! ...

I had an iPhone 3G. It died a few months back, and I replaced it with a 3GS.

When I plugged the 3GS into my Mac, I was asked by the computer if I would like to automatically load my old saved phone settings and stuff to the new phone. I said yes, and the new phone works like a charm.

Except...

My custom ringtones do not work. They refuse to play. I can go to a contact in the address book, assign a ringtone, and save it. When that contact calls, I just get the original stock phone ring sound. I can go back to the address book as many times as I want and re-assign the ringtone (I can even play the ringtones when assigning them, the AAC files are just fine) but they refuse to play when the person calls.

Also, it seems that the regular ""Old Phone" sound is the ONLY ringtone that works with these contacts. I tried to assign "Sonar" to them, and that didn't work either. Only the "Old Phone" ringtone plays.

Any ideas here? I'm confused!

Reading Texts ...

Is there any iphone app that modifies how texts are read?

Our monitoring system tracks servers, web apps, data, and other things, and texts us if there's a problem. The value for me is in scrolling from one text to the next.

The iphone seems to only have a "here's a list. select one and drill down" mode. Is it not possible to get to a screen that just lets you scroll through the items by flipping the screen?

I can think of no better use for the iphone interface than this. Just now I can do it on my Mobile Win phone, of all things.

For e-mail I can appreciate a list/drill approach, but texts are naturally brief and are conducing to a more rapid interface that doesn't present a split presentation (summary info in the list, details when drilling) but DOES allow for rapid movement to the next message in the history.

I got an iPhone 3G about 10 months ago and recently had it replaced due to some issues. Some of the same issues were continuing to occur so I had my phone looked at again by a genius at the apple store; he advised me to restore my phone and set it up as a new phone rather than from a backup. Until now when I sent a text message there was no tone but now there is, I've tried finding something in settings to prevent this because the swooshing noise is very annoying but can't find anything. If anybody knows how to turn off this tone it would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out.

Dictionary issues ...

My dictionary has gone insane. When I type "me" it wants to replace it with "mr". When I type "3", it replaces it with "2"!?!?!?! Since when is 2 usually used instead of 3? I thought dictionary was supposed to remember the changes I make to it but it has done this countless times.

Can this be fixed?

iPhone 3Gs played music while on phone ...

Someone called me while I was listening to music through the included headset from Apple and instead of the music stopping, the volume decreased and I was able to hear both the music at a lower volume and the person I was talking to at a higher volume.

Has anyone had this happen? I have not been able to replicate either with calling out or having someone call me, does anyone know how to replicate this?

On a recent trip to NY with my son , both of us took photos on our phones , his is Sony Ericsson mines iphone 3GS . He asked me to bluetooth the photos to his phone and was in stitches laughing when I told him I could not do it on the iphone after me raving about the phone to him for weeks ! This absolutely crazy leaving this out of the iphone ! When will this be resolved ?

Hi,
I had a one year contract with Airtel (one of two service providers) in India which expired in Aug 2009 and the carrier informed me (when asked) that the contract is over and i could use any other carrier's SIM and network (n/w). I travelled to the UK and since bought an O2 prepaid SIM card which has a top up of 15 Pounds. When I insert the SIM, it does not connect to the network. On checking with another UK iPhone, the SIM was recognised and it connects to the n/w and it shows teh top up value of 15 pounds. I tried syncing up the iPhone with the itunes and it displays "The SIM card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported " this message. What do I do? I read some similar posting with respect to a France telecom operator and the operator referring it to APPLE?

Can someone help me...is the iPhone in India, country locked?

Hi,

I'm on the verge of buying an iPhone. Due to stupid mess ups with Nokia phones i'm having trouble with all my text messages from the passed few months are spread out over two separate Nokia phones, of which one is out for repair (I have a backup file).

My partner has an iPhone with a full thread of our text messages. Now here's the question: is it possible to somehow transfer that thread to my iPhone when I get one, with it switching "received" and "sent" to the way it should be?

MMS still wont work on my iphone 3g :( ...

i've done the update, twice. haha i restored my phone an hour ago and put all the updates and good stuff back on and mms still wont work. i made sure the little setting in settings-general-blah blah blah was set to sending mms'. it's driving me nuts because im one of those people who sends a picture of EVERYTHING to their friends cause its funny and hilariously annoying. im completely up to date with everything. help me out please!

My wife and I have iPhone 3G and we updated the firmware and the carrier settings, for MMS. Followed all instructions with updating and turning the phone off to activate the settings and we still cannot send MMS messages. Standard SMS messages work. I have checked ATT website and it has the correct phone listed on our accounts, we have 200 text per month. Out of the blue her's started working and mine still does not. I know that it is activated because I have the camera icon and in settings under messages, MMS option is there. I have reset the network settings and have restored the phone from backup in iTunes and still no luck. I have tried everything I know of and ATT says it should be working. Any help would be appreciated.

When I select a person from my contacts to send a SMS to I have to choose whether I'd like to send it to their mobile or their home number. From time to time I, by mistake choose home. As you might guess the message bounces back, as it should. That said, why do home numbers even appear as an option? I would assume not labeling the number as mobile would disqualify that as an option. Any way around this?

I've been away on deployment for 5 months and now that I'm back I've updated all the software on my iPhone and MacBook. All of a sudden my message threads on my iPhone show a phone number rather than a name at the top of the conversation. I've messaged people since I've been home who already have running message threads but it opens up a new conversation rather than continuing the old one. iPhone 3GS MMS works when sent through ...

I recently got the iPhone 3G S 3.1 update, but for some reason when I send MMS through the camera button on the Messages screen it doesn't send. The "Sending" bar would go almost to the end and then stop for about 5 - 10 seconds, and then it reaches the end, but it doesn't send when I did a test with two of my friends. Though, when I click the "MMS" button on the photos app, it does send. I don't get why MMS doesn't work in the Messages app when it does in the Photos app, can you guys help me figure out the problem and how to fix it?

Daylight Saving Not working 3gs 3.1.2 ...

Hi all,

I am in the UK and have a 3GS 32GB on 3.1.2, today the clocks went back and I noticed that my iPhone didn't. I went into the date and time settings and I don't even have the "set time automatically" bit in the options.

Has anyone else got these options?

Any ideas why it's not working?

I was recently checking my SMS messages when I saw that it was saying I had (-1) messages. I shut the phone down, and turned it back on but the problem did not go away.
Today I restored my phone to a backup and it still did not go away.

I am very clueless on this issue i have tried everything i can think of, but since i have upgrade awhile back from 3.0 to 3.1 and now 3.1.2 i have had the same issue. When i receive 1 email it will show on my email icon as 2. I have reset the phone reinstalled the OS nothing fixes it. iPhone drops from iTunes when manually ...

Tonight is not a good night for technology in my house. But I'll limit this post to my iPhone issues.

When I plug in my iPhone 3G to my iMac, it initally shows up in iTunes. I just tried to drag a playlist to the iPhone, and it will start syncing, and then suddenly the iPhone no longer shows up under the "Devices" in iTunes. The phone will stay showing "Sync in Progress" for who knows how long. I stopped it after about 5 mins by doing a manual reset on the phone. I've restarted iTunes, I've restarted the iPhone. All of my software is up to date, and the iPhone is using the latest firmware.

I noticed something else as well. I typically use a dock to sync my iPhone. Earlier tonight for the first time ever, when I sat my iPhone in the dock, it would start to charge, but it wouldn't show up in itunes. That has never happened before. I assumed it was an issue with the dock, but now I'm thinking perhaps it's an issue with the phone or itunes? Just not sure.

Any help would be greatly appricated!

This is more of a feature request than anything, Apple could you please have your contact database support more than one "mobile" number for any given contact within the iPhone? I have several people that have multiple numbers (Google Voice for instance). Other number categories do not allow text messaging.

Hi, I bought a second hand iPhone 3G fully working tested my self..
Then I went to o2 got my self a pay as you go sim with unlimited texts and Internet.
Everything worked fine but, when I got home pluged it in the Pc Itunes came up and advised me to upgrade it,
when it finished upgrading I began getting "Searching..." and "No Service", but if I go to Settings - Carrier it finds O2 - UK and puts a tick next to it, but still no service, I tried my mums o2 contract sim and it didn't work is well.
So is there any way to fix it? Should I go to O2 store or I'm left with 200 pound iPod?

iPhone 3G S and Kenwood DNX-6140 ...

Not impressed so far. I have a Kenwood DNX6140 bluetooth enabled head unit in my car and a new iPhone 3G S. I use the docking cable to play music over, but everytime I get in my car, it automatically connects in A2DP and AVRCP profiles. Bluetooth stereo audio is crap compared to the cable, so I don't want to use that. Also every time I make a phone call, my phone doesn't stop music play back if it's hooked up over bluetooth....odd. does anyone have any suggestions?

Very odd MMS issue ...

Hey folks!

MMS had been working fine on my iPhone, but lately i've been getting some odd issues..

1.) I'll recieve a text (NOT an MMS). I'll see it on the screen, preview looks fine but at the bottom of the preview bubble it'll say "Attachment: 1 image". Keep in mind, this is definitely only an SMS. When i click on view, the text is not there and all that is there is a single line with the blue arrow that lets you view a pic full screen.

2.) When I open a conversation with someone, an MMS message i sent to someone else shows up in their conversation window like I had sent it to them, when in fact I did not.

Anyone know what the heck is going on? Thanks for any info you provide!

Known problems using earphones to do ...

Are there any known problem using earphones to do phonecalls? Mic is sometimes working and sometimes dead. Tried with 2 different type of earphones. After reboot it seems to be ok, but after a while the microphon is dead again. This occured after installing the latest Firmware (3.1.2.). I'm using iPhone 3G.

Upgraded to iTunes 9 no issues - then upgraded to 3.1 no issues. Go to connect my phone for a sync and I get a "Verifying Ryan's iPhone" where it stays and also my processor is maxed at 100%. So at this point I cannot sync and really need to find a fix. What do you think the problem is???

Iphone data roaming - option not ...

I am going on a long holiday (3months) to various countries from Canada and I will be using my phone only for the first leg of the journey for 15 days just to keep in touch with my family to say I'm safe and all. I dont want to unlock or jailbreak my phone.

Is there a way to disable the 3G to avoid roaming charges ( Since I am on a contract I cant ask my provider to block it) I turn on the data roaming option but the 3G sign is still shown and its still connecting to the network

I'm a new iPhone user and after setting up Yahoo and Gmail accounts I have a few issues that hopefully you can assist me with.
I've noticed that when I delete mail on my iPhone, it's also deleted from my PC's inbox. I've tried the Advanced option changing the Trash option to Other or Hold folder but it's still moved to Trash on the PC. Is there a way to delete the iPhone email but leave it on the PC?

In fact I can't keep any old emails on my PC without havong them appear on the iPhone. Is there a way to keep old mail on the PC only?

Delay on MMS replies... ...

If I'm texting to someone with standard texts, I get replies right away. However, if I send an MMS text and the person replies it can be many minutes or hours until I receive the reply.

In fact, if I text them back after my MMS text (to which they already replied) and they reply to the standard text, I will get the reply to my standard text long before the reply to the MMS text.

Hope that made sense.

I got my phone Oct 10th and my problem is i am unable to recieve text messages from ONLY Verizon customers. I can do everything else just fine. I did port over from verizon to att and i understand it takes time for the servers to update but almost 2 weeks ? Why is it that when you text, the time and date are only displayed every few min? Why does it not display everytime time and date for EACH text? Is there a way to included that for each text? How can I let Apple know they should update this?

This question does not pertain to the preview that pops up on the home page on the phone. My question is, is it possible to NOT automatically view a new message once it comes through? For example, my old phone would just archive text messages into a list, and I didn't necessarily have to read them if I didn't want to. Now, with the iphone (and only 200 messages plan), I'm forced to read all of the crap - sometimes one word crap - that is sent to me. I don't want to read that stuff, and I don't want it to count as one measly message either. Cheers.

iphone keeps searching for network. ...

Ever since upgrading to 3.1 my phone keeps losing network coverage and then won't find it again. The message "Searching" is constantly displayed. I've tried soft reset, hard set and a restore and I still get this problem. Does anybody else get it? Is there a way of going back to 3.01? I can't see any way to do it the Apple site as I'm sick of being without a phone.

I have an iPhone 8G, I think 2nd generation. My husband just got a new iPhone and the sales rep said that I would be able to text pictures as well. I have updated my iTunes but it still will not allow me text pictures. Any thoughts?

hi i have an iphone 3gs with newest firmware and carrier. all my messaging and mms works perfectly, however my international keyboard settings (like Chinese or emoticons) do not properly send to my recipient. it looks like it went through, no error or red explanation mark, but i asked and it never went through. this was tested from an iphone to another iphone and the same problem vice versa as well. i've asked apple store and they told me some worked perfectly fine for them and they ask me various questions about my updates and carriers updates and etc. and they didnt know what happened. so i was wondering if anyone would know whats going on without me taking a trip there through the crowded and hard to make appointment around my schedule to the apple store would be greatly appreciated!

When receiving a SMS I hear a sound as the SMS comes in.
A few minutes later the phone plays a identical sound, without a SMS coming in.
Sometimes it has sounded yet another time.

3GS uses WIFI connection only for calls ...

I have two 3GS iPhones and an Apple Airport Extreme router. Last night my internet was down (cable) and the iPhones would not call out or text. My area is Edge only. Edge was indicated on the phones. I thought the phone would switch to Edge when no WIFI was available, but neither phone would call or text until the internet came back up and the cable modem booted up.
Anyone else have this issue?

For some reason when someone calls or I call a landline, I cannot hear them. All I hear is my echo, but the person on the other line can hear me. I can call cell phones on ATT and other carriers. I have the 3GS and my wife has the 3G. We are in Phoenix. Anyone else having this problem???

Anyone know why an iPhone would start prompting to encrypt a backup? I have not manually selected to encrypt backups. If I select cancel it won't let me backup the phone.

Bottom line is that I want to use "Missing Sync for iPhone" to backup text messages and voicemails which requires un-encrypted backups so I definitely do not want to encrypt my backups.

If I'm on a call and receive a second call. the first caller can hear the call waiting notification "beep". This didn't happen before Iphone 3.0.

It's annoying when I'm on a conference all, everyone can hear that I'm receiving another call, or they ask whats' that sound.

I will be studying abroad December through February. I want to be able to bring my iPhone with me and be able to use it for email, phone, and downloads. I am new to this technology and don't know who to ask what the proper steps are in order to use it on a cost sensitive basis. Can't answer phone or unlock to read ...

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS 3.1.2 I find I cannot "slide to answer" calls or "slide to view" text messages.

When my phone is asleep (screen off) and either someone calls me or I receive a text, I get the usual "wallpaper" screen with either the blue box showing me who's sent a text or the indication of who's calling. However when I try to slide the bar at the bottom to either view the text message or answer the phone, it is totally unresponsive.

The only way to make it respond is to put the display to sleep (press the lock button on the top of the phone) and wake it up again (press the home button), then the slider will work. This obviously is totally unacceptable when someone's phoning, as it hangs up on them, and I then have to call them back, which on PAYG isn't ideal.

How can I fix this? I don't believe I have an older version of the iPhone OS on my computer as I got a new MBP after I last upgraded the OS (I think I have a backup of the phone done just before I upgraded).

I have been using this AIM app, and have been staying signed in. It has been wonderful, until now! Before, it had a phone icon next to it, so others could see that it was my phone. And when I was on the computer, it showed my name on the phone, and beside that it had a megaphone type icon, showing it was a phone. And when I was on the computer, AIM's would come to the computer. Now, everything is wrong. If I'm on the computer, messages come to both places. And also, I can't get a phone icon to show at all. NOTHING. And some friends have the icon of a phone showing, so I know it's supposed to be there. Up until yesterday, whenever I would receive a text message, there would be an alert on my screen as soon as it would wake, with "Show Preview" off, so that the actual message would not be visible. Now there is no alert at all-- but I can see next to the IM icon that there are messages waiting.

In preferences, I have "Show Preview" off and "Repeat Alert" on.

Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

iPhone failing to recieve some calls ...

Hi there,

Even though I may have signal, some calls coming in to my iPhone go straight to voicemail without even trying to ring. Sometimes they get through, sometimes they dont.

It's somewhat getting on my nerves.

My carrier is Orange, and making calls/composing texts/everything else works fine.
Except for call forwarding, which wont work. That is also rather annoying.

Any solutions?

I tried to call my wife this morning and the call said dialing for like 30 seconds and then nothing happened. I tried to call my phone from my land line and it went straight to voicemail. I have a great 3G signal with all bars in a location the phone normally works. I reset the phone and it started working fine.

It did the same thing again tonight at my house when I tried to call my phone with my wife's phone. I never had this issue until I upgraded the FW. The phone looks like it is working fine, but the cell phone functionality is not responding.

I just bought an Iphone. My old Sim was 4 years old so I needed a new Sim for the Iphone. It has not yet been activated. Before upgrade to 3.1.2 my Iphone integrated with my car MMI/BT unit with no problems, displaying all the contacts on the BT display unit. Missing ringtones ...

I made some ringtones in the last few months and everything was fine until last week. When I synced my iPhone 3GS, iTunes informed me that some files were missing. Indeed some of the rigtones I made have disappeared from my iTunes library (I only have one library, on an external drive which is NOT backed-up by Time Machine).

The ringtones are still on my iPhone but not on my computer and I can't seem to be able to download them from my iPhone when it syncs and I always get the "missing files" message. Help!

Call Audio to Headphone for Car ...

Hola. I am trying to connect my iPhone 3GS running 3.0 to my car's AUX in port. I am currently using a 3-conductor 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, and this works fine for everything (iPod, Pandora, system sounds) EXCEPT the Phone app. I cannot get audio out of the iPhone to the car. However, last night I tried it in my friend's car, with a different 3-conductor 3.5mm to 3.5mm plug, and it WORKED! So, my question is, how do I know what kind of 3.5mm cable to buy so that audio and speakerphone work?

Also, in my search of this forum I found a few people talking about "automatic speakerphone" when you remove the handset from your head (using the proximity sensor). Is my phone supposed to do this??? I've been through two (one new, one refurb after the other broke) 3GSes, but neither ever did this. I am in USA (if it is a regional feature)...

3GS - Did Hard Reset, lost all my SMS ...

I just did a hard reset on my iPhone (it was doing some weird things), when it restarted all my text messages were gone. It was showing 1 new message on the home page, and when I opened SMS, nothing was there.

Hard reset again, still nothing.

Hello everyone, first post. I know this is a known issue, but it's a variation on a theme, so please read the whole description before writing it off.

Whenever I plug my iPhone in to almost any adapter or dock, even with a charge converter, it will work fine for about 10 minutes. After that, the music pauses and the iPhone gives the "compatibility error." I press any button (either way, it exhibits the same behavior) and start the music again. Then after about 3-5 minutes, it pauses and gives the error again, and again after a minute, and then every 3-5 seconds. If I remove the iPhone from the device for about an hour, and try it again, the cycle repeats itself.

I've tried cleaning everything thoroughly, and checked with those who support two of the docks and they say at the bare minimum they support playing music.

To boot, I also got a Apple bluetooth headset and it will allow me to make outbound calls, but it rarely allows me to take incoming calls.

I'm using a brand new iPhone 3G 16GB running firmware v2.2.

First, is anyone else exhibiting any of this behavior? Second, does anyone think it's a hardware issue? Third, can I do a swap at the AT

I am using an iPhone 3G and when writing an SMS I am missing the count down of characters so I know when I am still in ONE message and when I will be over 160 characters and I will create a long SMS which results in two messages. I found that a very helpful hint when writing to have some cost control.

I have done a few searches on google. but i have found nothing that really answers my problem. everything is from the 2.0/2.1/2.2 era.

Ok, My problem:

1. When someone calls me, sometimes my phone plays ball and rings as it should do. Other times, like when my mum rang before, it doesn't ring, vibrate, display a message on the screen, or say 'Mum. four missed calls' when i go to unlock it. All it does is log an entry in my phone app, the missed calls are there but why is it not ringing?

2. This has also happened a few times, and i had forgotten about this issue until i read it on an old forum, and it appears related to prob 1. When i try to send an SMS it doesn't always work, 8 times out of 10 it does. but it is still happening, i get a little red circle with an exclamation mark inside it.

3. When i send an SMS and it works, people report getting several copies of them. this is also related to the other probs. It also sometimes has happened to me, i have received dupe copies of a message someone only sent once.

I am running the latest, 3.?? firmware, i cant remember the number but is the latest one.

iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode ...

Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in? Did I just totally ruin my iPhone? What do I do? Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

RED "!" when sending mms messages. Not all the time. Sometime it works fast, other times i get "!".Problem is:
1- I resend it and get a reply saying i sent it twice
2- They never get it.

Receiver of phone call hears "growling" ...

After about three minutes of a phone call using my iPhone 3G, the person on the other end hears my voice coming through as what has been described to me as "growling," "an old man," and "a serial killer." Ok, I sent my wife 3 photos via MMS and she told me that they were sent from 3 totally different numbers from 3 different area codes. The first 2 I sent prior to the new carrier updates and the last one I sent afterwards and still the same thing ... all I can say is "Huh?" And now my wife has people texting her back from those numbers.

Texting to Brazil from O2 ...

I have already discovered that there are some mobile phone companies that I can't text to in Brazil due to either limits on the O2 network or Brazil.

Does any one know of an app that I can use to get me around this problem?

I can get text messages from Brazil but just can't send them.

I had the same problem with the States but found a good application for that.

I would be grateful if anyone has an answer for this as its driving me nuts.

iPhone 3GS not sending text messages at ...

Hi

I bought a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS in Italy a few weeks ago, running on OS version 3.1. I am currently in Zimbabwe and with my local sim card, with Econet, I cannot send any text messages as it just continuously fails... The funny thing is that I can receive messages. Is there any way to check what message centre number the iphone is using? I've looked everywhere to find that there is no setting to change it. If I put my vodafone one back in I can text on roaming, so I can send texts here. Just can't work out what the problem is. I also noticed that there are no settings for messages like you'd find on other cell phones. Does anyone have a possible solution for me to try?

I know this is a user forum, and thats why you only see lots of complaints here, but I'd like to thank Apple for finally adding a few features. Customizing the desktop is nice, and will come in very useful with the release of the SDK. The Google maps triangulation is very useful as well, the accuracy seems to be an issue b/c I can re-triangulate in the same position several times and get some different answers, but it's pretty close and I think that for anyone who is traveling it would suit the needs fairly well. Lastly, thanks for the multiple SMS messages. This was one of the things many of us were surprised it didn't have out of the box, but now it does.

I think the only 2 updates I'm waiting for are MMAs and copy/paste functions. I know the 3G will require hardware (next gen) so it's not even reasonable to mention it here.

iPhone Typing Caps Lock? ...

This may be a simple question, but one thing that has always bugged me about the iPhone keyboard is that is seemingly impossible to hold down caps lock...even when u manually push the caps lock button it deactivates as soon as i enter 1 letter.

am i being stupid and is there a way to enable caps lock until i want to disable it?

ive just noticed that under keyboard settings there is an option to "enable caps lock" which was "off"....ive switched it on and it still doesnt do what i want it to.

iPhone 3Gs: intermittently will not ...

Phone is 1 week old and problem occurs after every 5-6 calls. Even with 5 bar signal strength, call is not transmitted. The display shows that the call is being placed but it's just dead...and stays that way until you end the call. Likewise when this occurs, the phone will not receive calls...they go straight to vmail. The only fix I've found is recycle power but frustrating to do after every 5 or 6 calls... I know it's not a signal thing because many times other iphone users in the same room have no problems. Anyone experienced this or have a fix?

Why can't I send large text messages? ...

Okay, normal text messages isnt the problem (the length of a single message (probably 160 characters). But when I start sending a text message more than 160 characters and consists of 2 or more messages the recipent never recieves it. I tried every carrier (tmobile, metro pcs, verizon, sprint) and no one gets my message if its too large. I called ATT n they told me to send my text to a 115 or 155 number and see if I got a message back. when I sent the text, it worked but I tried the large text and nothing. tried turning it off, nothing, restoring it, nothing, reseting the network and nothing. please help.. is it my phone or att?

Iphone 3GS Email issue ...

I just purchased an Iphone 3GS (previous owner of 3G)

Had email setup through Push with my works Exchange server with out any problems.

Now, every so often I try to send an email with an attachment(or forward it)it gets stuck in my out box and won't send.

I have full signal!

Error: "Cannot Send Mail" An Error occurred while delivering your this message.

Ever since I have upgraded to 3GS I have been having issues sending email.

There are a few other people in the office experiencing the same problem with their 3gs, and all of the people with 3g are still not having any problems.

None of the settings at my job have changed at all.

Any help would be nice.

So I have had the iphone since it originally came out and have upgraded everytime a newwer one comes out, which is getting more expensive since I wasn't "eligible" to buy the 3Gs for the $199 price, and I still don't understand why Apple hasn't added an option to make your own text tones. The ringtones is nice because the stock ones are too low, but why did you stop short? The best part about the iphone is being able to customize it to your own style. But you don't let us change the text? The generation of kids are using text more and more than most people call. The majority of your customers probably text more. So why don't you serve the majority of the people who make you rich? I know that there are probably more important advances in the iphone software, which I am very happy for because you always find something fun to add, but please help us all out and give us the opportunity to "think different".

Also if there are people who know how to program applications just think of how much money you will make by selling the app for even $.99. Some 11 year old kid made like $77,000 for some cheesy art app. You can make millions if you release something before apple makes it an internal change.

And for anybody who will say jailbreak your phone and you can have custom MMS tones, then your ******** if your gonna jailbreak just for ringtones. Jailbreaking is worthless now, apple already has about 85% of the features that jailbreaking was so popular for.

Does anyone happens to have same problem?
Called my provider and suggested to deactivate MMS and not having Subject on.
Despite the hassle, they are charging me MMS costs instead of SMS...!
There must be other way around this.

Just wondering if there is a way of adding to the tones that are already on the iPhone 3gs, this seems to be the only downside to what is a great product, just wish apple would do something about it. Is there software that would do it?.

hi all,

maybe there's an answer to that question already, but i did not find it. believe me, i've tried.

the problem: everytime i get a call one of these bubble messages does appear, which tells me "incoming call forwarded" and i have to hit "OK" before i am able to answer the call. if the phone is in locked mode, the bubble does not appear, but it shows up after i unlock. quite annoying in case case of multiple calls during locked period, because for every call there is a bubble.

my provider does not sell the iphone, but i have a completely free one without having done a jailbreak or something like that, os version 3.1.2.

is there a possibility to get rid of these bubbles?!

second question: when finishing a call, my iphone has opened my contacts-list and it stays open (although it was not before the call). is there a possibility to return to the homescreen after finishing a call?

A few bugs thats has never been ...

Well there are 3 bugs that have constantly driving me up the wall. I thought it was just the iPhone I had, but since I have had it replaced 3x and I have an iPod Touch which has one of these problems also.

Problem 1: When an incoming caller has a picture with there information, the phone freezes and won't let me answer the phone. This has been a problem that hasnt been addressed since the earlier OS'.

Problem 2: When there is an incoming call, the slider sometimes jams up and won't let you answer the call, the only solution to this has been to stick in the headphones and answer your call through its mic button. This has been present since the earlier OS' too.

Problem 3: Relates to all models of iPhone and iPod. Music videos played through a shuffle sometimes do not show the video, however the audio continues to play. Problem present since FIRST OS.

I'm certain that many of you have this problem, and would like Apple to fix this hopefully in their upcoming OS'.

Iphone on 2 Computers help ...

Hi.

I have a MacBook at home which holds all of my music, movies and Applications. My Iphone is only sync to my MacBook under applications to allow them to all be present.

I also have a PC at work which has the latest itunes on and holds no music, movies or applications. When i connect it to that itunes though i can't listen to any of my music or movies. they are all grayed out.

I have elminitaed the problem as being the fact i have it synced via the applications and the only way it seems to work is if it isn't synced. But i loose all my applications that way.

Is there another way of listening to music on both computers and not loosing my applications?

Directing phone calls via aux cable ...

Many of us run our ipods off the iphone through our aux cables out to the car speakers - one thing ive noticed tho is when you are rung upby someone this function seems to cease and the conversation is not heard through the car speakers. The speakerphone on the handset is not ideal for hearing things.

An extremely irritating thing with the iPhone is that the screen goes black extremely fast when a call is ongoing. This makes IN applications and
"bank on the phone" very hard to use.

Not to talk about att the time i have struggled to do a "hook on".

I would prefer if the screen was lit up during the whole call. I rather charge the phone more often than having the screen saver hide my keys almost immediately.

Multiple texting ...

I just tried to send a text to 22 people in my contacts list. After about 10 seconds of the progress bar turning i got a prompt saying sending failed. Does this mean it failed for one or all of my selected contacts. Is there any way to get a delivery report so i can confirm this so i dont resend to them all again?
